Nooksack Valley High School

Drama Code

The purpose of Nooksack Valley High School is to prepare successful citizens by continually improving student achievement

This code is in effect during the entire school year, from the first day of fall practice until the last day of the school year, regardless of the initiation date of rehearsals.

 

Rules

Participants must refrain from the following:
1.                  Use or possession of tobacco products
2.                  Being present more than 5 minutes at a function where alcohol and/or drugs are being consumed/used or have been                        consumed or used
3.                  Use or possession of intoxicating beverages and illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia
4.                  Committing unlawful acts that have or could have resulted in a misdemeanor or higher penalty
5.                  Serious and/or repeated violation of school rules
6.                  Serious and/or repeated disrespectful conduct

Penalties for Out of Season offenses will include:

First offense:
1.      Suspension from participation in the next upcoming show
2.      Drug and alcohol evaluation, paid for by offender, may be required
3.      Random drug tests, paid for by offender, may be required

Second offense:
1.      Suspension from the next two, consecutive, upcoming shows
2.      Drug and alcohol evaluation, paid for by offender, may be required
3.      Random drug tests, paid for by offender, may be required

Third offense:
1. Suspension from all drama activities and shows for one calendar year
2. Drug and alcohol evaluation, paid for by offender, may be required
3. Random drug tests, paid for by offender, may be required

Penalties for an In Season offense will include:

1. Complete loss of participation in current show and suspension from participation in the next upcoming show
2. Drug and alcohol evaluation, paid for by offender, may be required
3. Random drug tests, paid for by offender, may be required

Honesty

            Being honest with the director when first questioned regarding a possible violation may release suspension from future                shows.

Appeal of Suspension

            If desired, the initial interpretation of this code can be appealed by contacting the principal within three days of     the  initial decision. 

Grade Requirements

            All participating students must maintain a cumulative 1.75 GPA based on semester grades. All students must be passing    a minimum of seven of eight classes.

            If participants drop below a 1.75 GPA, they must attend morning tutorial each scheduled school day in order to continue participation in the program.  Two failures to attend will result in dismissal from the current show.  All participants who have earned “F’s” on their previous grade check or report card must attend morning tutorial each week in order to continue participation in the current show.  Attendance at morning tutorial will continue until all classes demonstrate a passing grade.

Administrative Discretion

Administrative discretion may be utilized in situations or circumstances not covered by this code.

The signatures below prescribe that the student and parent/guardian understand the conditions regarding the Nooksack Valley High School Drama Code.  As a parent/guardian, I grant permission for my child to participate in the drama program at Nooksack Valley High School.
