COURSE DESCRIPTION GUIDE

Credits & Graduation Requirements @ NVHS

Nooksack Valley High School operates on a two semester system with four grading periods.  Semester grades are given after the second and fourth quarters.  Those semester grades are the marks recorded on student transcripts and are the permanent grades for courses taken.

The high school is on a six-period day schedule, with an advisory period on Tuesdays.  Students can earn 6.25 credits in a year (advisory credit is a total of .25 per year). One-half credit may be earned by successfully completing a class in a semester.  Therefore, as an example, one year of English would equal 1.0 credits.

Students will need to meet all of the following requirements  in order to receive a Nooksack Valley High School diploma:

1. Earn 24 credits (as outlined in table) English 4
2. ELA & Math High School Assessments Requirements or Other Graduation Pathway Math 3
3. Washington State History Course Completion (typically completed in grade 7) Science 3

*Up to 2 credits can be waived locally based upon a student’s circumstances (24 credits must be attempted).
