NV FBLA Students Shine at Seattle Event
Three Nooksack Valley High School seniors made their business mark at Seattle event not typically open to students. Recently, NV Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students Jacqueline Rodriguez-Mendoza, Leilani Daniels and Phoebe Hunt traveled with advisor Owen Craig to PAX West, the largest gaming export in North America with a special invite to volunteer at a charity livestream booth.
During the event, the students helped set up and manage a livestream studio while troubleshooting on the fly, helping raise funds ($10,000) for charity, interviewing professionals in the industry and having conversations with a variety of people involved in the profession.
“It was such an amazing experience, being able to meet people and expand my horizons and eyes to careers and opportunities I didn’t know possible,” Daniels says.
Rodriguez-Mendoza agrees. “PAX was bigger than I had imagined it,” she says. “Volunteering with LANFest really showed me how impactful streaming can be on the gaming community with the money we raised. Talking to all kinds of people in the arena really gave me a sense of the variety of jobs there are in the gaming industry.”
Craig says not only did the students have a chance to network, but also get comfortable initiating conversations with industry leaders, creators and innovators in a professional setting.
